WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team used a balanced offensive attack and a strong defensive performance to post a 21-6 victory at Otterbein on Wednesday evening.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (5-5 Overall, 2-0 OAC), Otterbein (4-5 Overall, 1-1 OAC).
- Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio.
The Game
- An impressive 17 different Polar Bears scored goals in the contest, led by senior J.D. Hale (West Chester/Lakota West) with a 3-goal hat trick.
- Senior Nathan Flynn (Springboro) and junior Ryan Frech (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) each added two goals for the Polar Bears.
- ONU scored just 39 seconds into the match and held a 3-0 lead with 5:21 gone.
- The lead was 5-1 after the first period, 10-2 at halftime and 16-3 after three quarters.
- The Orange and Black won 21-of-31 faceoffs and forced 27 Cardinal turnovers.
- Sophomore Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) had seven saves in just more than 49 minutes to earn the win in goal for Northern.
- ONU out-shot OU 68-25 won the the ground ball battle 41-23.
Notables
- Flynn and junior Jack Chaney (Westerville/South) lead the Polar Bears in points this season with 15 each.
- Chaney also leads the team with eight assists.
- Hale leads the team in goals this season with 13.
- Northern leads the all-time series with the Cardinals by a 10-3 margin.
- Senior Alex Bergeron (Grafton, Mass.) is the team leader in caused turnovers this season with 12.
- Junior Davin Halliday (Delaware/Hayes) has a team-high 71 face-off wins.
- Bergeron, Frech and Halliday each has 23 ground balls.
- Lich ranks third all-time in ONU history with 259 saves, 18 wins and 1399 minutes played in goal.
