Burman sets personal-best mark in the shot put to lead Women’s Outdoor Track and Field at Mount Union Last Chance Meet

ALLIANCE — Sophomore Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) achieved a personal-best mark in the shot put to lead the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet on Wednesday and Thursday at Kehres Stadium.
The Polar Bears (28-5 overall) competed in seven events at the meet, which was not team scored.
Burman posted a mark of 11.93 meters in the shot put to place fifth in the event. That distance ranks eighth all-time at ONU.
Burman also competed in the hammer throw, finishing seventh with a mark of 46.59 meters.
Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:38.41, and senior Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) was second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.62 meters.
Also in the pole vault, freshman Claire Schweller (Paulding) was sixth with a mark of 3.32 meters, and senior Cienna Kuhn (Elida) was seventh with a mark of 3.02 meters.
Sophomore Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 39.28 meters and added an eighth-place showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.22 meters.
Sophomore Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.36 and placed 11th in the prelims of the 100 meters in :13.54.
The meet marked the end of ONU's 2023 regular-season schedule. The 2023 NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled for May 25-27 in Rochester, N.Y.
The top 22 individuals in each event and top 16 school relay teams will qualify for the national meet. National qualifiers will be announced on Friday.
Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) currently ranks 21st nationally in the 10,000 meters with a time of 36:07.00.
