Junior Kase Schalois leads Men's Track & Field on Day 1 of the OAC Outdoor Championships

WILMINGTON — Junior Kase Schalois garners All-OAC honors to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team on day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Wilmington College at Beckett Track.
After day one of competition the Polar Bears are ranked 1st of 10 teams with 66 points.
Mount Union is in second with 52 points, followed by John Carroll in third with 51 points.
Schalois led ONU finishing first in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:22.48, earning OAC Champion and All-OAC honors.
Junior Cully Gordon also earned OAC Champion honors in the 10,000-meter run winning the event in 32:07.29.
Senior Brandon Ike earned All-OAC honors in the pole vault finishing second with a height of 4.60 meters.
The 4x800-meter relay of senior Dan Sowa, junior Ian McKee, sophomore Alec Lunney, and sophomore Matt Molinaro earned All-OAC honors finishing second in 7:49.04.
Sophomore Samuel Boyd and freshman Kody Calkins and Spencer Schulze also garnered All-OAC honors in the meet. Boyd finished third in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:34.12, while Calkins claimed third in the javelin with a toss of 52.62 meters and Schulze took third in the 10,000-meter run in 32:13.35.
Senior Christian Rupe qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash after winning the prelims in 10.83. He also qualified for day two of competition in the 200-meter dash finishing second in 22.21.
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Conner Karg finished fifth in 49.86 qualifying for the finals on Saturday.
Eric Collins finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run in 32:31.03.
Sophomore Brandon Emert finished third in the 400-hurdle prelims in 55.47.
Junior Lucas Shumate earned a fourth place finish in the discus with a toss of 44.01 meters, while senior Steven Gohrband finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters.
Day two of competition begins Saturday at 10 am.
