Willits scores 4 goals to lead Men's Lacrosse to a 15-8 win over Otterbein

ADA — Junior Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 15-8 win over Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference battle on a windy and rainy Wednesday evening. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (10-4 Overall, 5-1 OAC), Otterbein (6-6 Overall, 4-2 OAC).
• Venue: Dial Roberson Stadium - Ada, Ohio. 

The Game 

• Senior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) had a three-goal hat trick in the contest. 
• Junior Nathan Flynn (Springboro) scored one goal and had three assists in the game. 
• Flynn scored the first goal for the Polar Bears with 5:56 left in the first period.
• The Orange and Black and the Cardinals traded goals in the second period but, Northern would take the 5-4 lead going into halftime.
• Senior Ian Roy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) scored the opening goal of the second half at 14:21 to take a 6-4 lead.
• After two Otterbein goals, Roy would find the net again at 9:19 to take a 7-6 advantage.
• Northern would finish the third period on a 3-0 run with three different Polar Bears scoring to take a 10-7 lead heading into the fourth period.
• ONU would stay hot going on a 5-1 run in the fourth period to put the game out of reach.
• The Cardinals were led by Dom Dean who had three goals.
• Freshman Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Macedon) had 10 saves to earn the win.
• Eight different Polar Bears scored goals in the contest. 
• ONU out-shot MU 51-27 and had the ground ball advantage 46-19.

• Willits leads the team in goals this season with 35.
• He also leads the team in points with 44.
• Bennett leads the team in assists this season with 20.
• Sophomore Ryan Frech (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) leads the team in caused turnovers this season with 23.
• Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won 14 of 19 in faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 533 for his career.
• He also has the career ground balls record with 245.
• Willits is fifth all-time in ONU history with 79 career goals.
• Northern leads the all-time series with a 9-3 record.
• Bennett ranks tied for fourth all-time in ONU history with 42 career assists.
• Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his tenth season at Ohio Northern with a 102-52 record, a winning percentage of .662.
