ADA — Seventeen different players scored goals as the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team posted a 23-0 victory over Wilmington on a beautiful warm Wednesday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 2-8, 0-2.
The shutout was the second in program history for ONU and the first since a 17-0 win over Muskingum on April 7, 2018.
Northern also set single-game records with 65 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.
Six different Polar Bears had two goals each, led by sophomore Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) with two goals and three assists for a team-best five points.
Sophomore T.J. Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) had a game-high 10 ground balls, just two shy of the school record.
Ohio Northern put the game away early with four goals in the first 5:48 of the contest. The lead was 7-0 after the first quarter and 16-0 at halftime.
All 44 healthy ONU players saw action in the contest.
Northern out-shot Wilmington 69-5, won 25-of-27 faceoffs and held a 65-7 advantage in ground balls.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday with a road game at Muskingum.
