Sophie Windover named head Volleyball coach at Ohio Northern
By Wes Mayberry
ADA — Sophie Windover has been named the head volleyball coach at Ohio Northern.
"We are excited for our student-athletes, our alumni and the tradition that ONU Volleyball has held so high for so long. As Sophie takes over the program leadership, I am confident that we will continue to compete at a high level," ONU Director of Athletics Tom Simmons said.
ONU welcomes Windover to the position following the departure of Katie Kuhn, who is now the head volleyball coach at Ashland.
"It is truly an honor to represent Ohio Northern as the next head volleyball coach for this storied program," Windover said. "Thank you to the entire search committee, coaches and athletes for taking the time to meet with me and making me feel welcome throughout the entire process. I look forward to getting things started and building upon the rich tradition of excellence. Go Polar Bears!"
Windover comes to ONU after two seasons as the head volleyball coach at fellow Ohio Athletic Conference member Wilmington.
Last season, Windover led the Quakers to one of their best seasons in the last decade.
During her time at Wilmington, Windover coached 12 Academic All-OAC student-athletes and the program's first All-OAC honoree. In 2021, the Quakers earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
Prior to coaching at Wilmington, Windover served as the assistant volleyball coach at Heidelberg from 2019 to 2021.
Windover is a 2015 graduate of Emmanuel College (Ga.) and holds a bachelor's degree in organizational communications.
The Polar Bears are coming off a 2022 season that saw them finish 16-8 overall and tied for second in the OAC with a 6-3 conference mark. They open their 2023 season on Sept. 1 at the Cedar Point Invitational.
