Burman, Friend, Schweller earn bids to NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

ADA — Seniors Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) and Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) and junior All-American Claire Schweller (Paulding) all received bids to compete at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 22-24 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Burman qualified in the shot put and the hammer throw, Friend qualified in the shot put and the discus and Schweller will compete in the pole vault.
Burman is making her first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance and her third NCAA Championships appearance overall.
She is seeded sixth in the shot put with a school record 14.25 meters. She is also seeded 15th in the hammer throw with a school record 53.65 meters.
Burman was 13th this winter indoors in the weight throw after finishing 19th at the 2024 Indoor Championships in the event.
Friend is making her first NCAA Championships appearance.
She is seeded 13th in the shot put at 14.00 meters and is seeded 10th in the discus with a school record 46.09-meter effort.
Schweller is making her second Outdoor appearance and her fourth overall.
She earned All-America honors Outdoors last spring, finishing fifth by clearing 3.84 meters. She was ninth at each of the last two Indoor Championships (3.77m and 3.92m).
Schweller will get things started for the Polar Bears in the meet on Thursday with the pole vault at 12:30 pm. She is seeded eighth in the event at 3.95 meters.
Friend will begin the discus at 1 pm on Thursday.
Friend and Burman will compete in the shot put on Friday at 2 pm.
On Saturday, Burman will wrap things up with the hammer throw at 11 am.
The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
