Meet Previews: Ohio Northern opens its 2023 outdoor season with a split-squad weekend at the Washington (Mo.) Distance Carnival and the Tiffelberg Open … Five Polar Bears are competing in the Washington (Mo.) meet on Friday and Saturday… Senior Tessa Pitcovich, junior Megan Vapenik, sophomore Ashley Hockstok and freshman Kennedy Rader are running in the 10,000 meters, and senior Taylor Ellerbrock is running in the 3,000-meter steeplechase … The remaining team members will compete in Saturday's Tiffelberg Open … Field events begin at 10 a.m., and running events begin at 11:30 a.m. … The Polar Bears are coming off an indoor season that saw them finish with a 24-2 record and six All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors among four different athletes … Sophomore Izzy Burman won OAC titles in the shot put and weight throw, and Pitcovich was the conference champion in the 3,000 meters … Senior Anna Schatzle is the reigning OAC champion in the outdoor pole vault … Other returning All-OAC honorees from the 2022 outdoor season include Pitcovich (10,000, 5,000), senior Kenzie Detmer (triple jump), junior Olivia Ogg (pole vault) and sophomore Olyvia Ashbrook (400-meter hurdles) … Schatzle and Pitcovich qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2022, placing 20th in the pole vault and 17th in the 10,000 meters, respectively.
