Pitcovich, Gibson, Burman post event victories to lead Women’s Track and Field to win at Muskingum Invitational

NEW CONCORD - The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team took home a first-place finish at the Muskingum Invitational at the Bullock Health and Wellness Center.
The Polar Bears (17-0) scored 161.5 points to lead the 13-team field. Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) was second with 155 points, and Mount Vernon Nazarene was third with 63 points.
Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe-Falls) won the 5,000-meter run in 17:45.84. Her time is currently No. 1 in the OAC.
Sophomore Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty-Benton) won the weight throw with a toss of 14.73 meters.
Sophomore Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) won the long jump with a leap of 5.24 meters.
The Polar Bears added five second-place finishes.
Sophomore Olyvia Ashbrook was second in the 500-meter run in 1:23.58.
Freshman Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) was runner up in the mile run with a time of 5:36.03
Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) was second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:26.29
Junior Rosie Schroeder (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) took second in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.75 seconds.
The 4x200 meter relay team of freshmen Stacey Legg (Monroeville), Rachel Ruggles (Mogadore/Field) and Kyleigh Bigelow (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen) and sophomore Katelyn Messner (Granville) finished in a time of 1:58.79 for the second-place finish.
Northern added third-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the weight throw.
Gibson finished in a personal-best time of :08.20.
Sophomore Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) tossed the weight 13.42 meters for the third-place finish.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday when they host the annual Joe Banks Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.
