Women’s Indoor Track and Field posts first-place finishes in nine events to win fourth annual Larry Cole Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team opened its season Friday night with a first-place finish in the Larry Cole Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (5-0) scored 216 points to lead the six-team field. Cedarville was second with 119 points, and Adrian (Mich.) was third with 65 points.
Northern recorded first-place finishes in nine events.
Senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow-Stow-Munroe Falls) finished first in the 3,000 meters in a meet-record time of 10:29.07.
Sophomore Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland) added a pair of top finishes, placing first in the 60 meters in a time of :08.12 and the 200 meters with a time of :28.01. Her time in the 60 ranks eighth all-time at ONU.
Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) won the 1-mile run with a time of 5:24.06, sophomore Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) won the 500 meters in 1:25.06, and junior Sydney Goodrich (Romeo, Mich.) won the 1,000 meters in 3:20.09.
In the field events, senior Kenzie Detmer (Liberty Center) and sophomores Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) and Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) won their respective events.
Detmer was first in the triple jump with a mark of 9.97 meters, Burman was first in the weight throw with a mark of 15.83 meters, and Gibson was first in the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.
Burman's distance was a personal-best and ranks second all-time at ONU.
Gibson's mark was a personal-best and ranks eighth all-time at ONU.
Burman added a second-place finish in the shot put with a meet-record distance of 12.16 meters but was bested by Manchester's Carley Camp with 12.61 meters.
The Polar Bears added seven additional second place finishes.
Junior Allie Starner (Wellington) was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of :10.43, junior J.J. Herron (Miamisburg) was second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:25.97), freshman Stacey Legg (Monroeville) was second in the 60 meters with a time of :08.20, and senior Lexi Neff (Northfield/Walsh Jesuit) was second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:21.54.
Legg's time ranks 10th all-time at ONU in the 60 meters.
Freshman Lauryn Wolters (Anna) was second in the long jump with a mark of 5.00 meters, freshman Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) was second in the pole vault with a height of 3.45 meters, and sophomore Rylie Barrington (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen) was second in the triple jump with a mark of 9.69 meters.
Ford's mark ranks ninth all-time at ONU in the pole vault.
The Polar Bears return to action on Jan. 28 at the Muskingum Invitational.
