ADA — The Ohio Northern women's track and field program placed seven student-athletes on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region awards list for the 2019 indoor season, the national office announced Monday.
Seniors Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) and Tia Harris (Newton Falls), juniors Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay), Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston), and Allison Stevens (Naperville, Ill./Central), sophomore Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch), and freshman Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) each garnered a regional accolade this season.
To be recognized, a student-athlete must finish among the top-five individual or top-three relay performances in an event on their respective NCAA Division III regional performance list.
Ewing received her sixth career All-Great Lakes Region recognition after recording the fourth-best time in the 800-meter run. Her adjusted time of 2:14.88 for a banked-track venue was registered at last weekend's Polar Bear Final Qualifier, reserving the senior a spot at the NCAA Division III National Championships.
Meanwhile, Harris garnered her first All-Region honor in the shot put. She posted the fourth-best throw in the region with a 13.51-meter (44' 4") heave at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, breaking her own school record for the third time this season.
Lavey garnered her sixth and seventh career kudos after being honored in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes for the 2019 campaign. She finished in a two-way tie for fifth in the 60 with a 7.93 clocking and ended fifth in the 200 with a :25.77 adjusted time.
Krause, a former All-American, and Stevens were honored in the pole vault after both qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the event. The former received her third career All-Region accolade while the latter garnered her first.
The tandem went 1-2 in the region with 3.86- (12' 8") and 3.75-meter (12' 3.5") vaults.
DeWitt is now a two-time honoree after receiving her second consecutive award for the indoor long jump. She claimed the fifth spot on the event's performance list with a season-best, 5.47-meter (17' 11.5") bound at the Joe Banks Invitational.
Silva earns her first career honor with the announcement. She ended fourth in the 60-meter dash standings with a 7.92 effort at the OAC Championships, which also tied the Ohio Northern school record.
Ewing, Krause, and Stevens are slated to compete at the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championships this Friday and Saturday in Boston, Massachusetts to conclude the indoor season.
