ADA — Sophmore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) finished third in the pole vault at the NCAA Div. III National Championships to claim All-America honors to lead the Ohio Northern women's track and field team on Friday at North Central (Ill.) College.
Reed finished third with a vault of 12' 7.50".
The sophomore earned All-America honors for the first time in her career.
"Maddy overcame a lot today," said head coach Jason Maus. "She had a lot of pressure on her coming into this meet. This is her first indoor national meet and she had the second best vault in the country and to be able to perform the way she did is huge. She definitely deserves it and we are proud of her effort today."
Junior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) moved on to the finals tomorrow in both the 800-meter run and the 1-mile run.
Richards finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:13.26 to move onto the finals.
She also finished third overall in the prelims of the 1-mile to move on to the finals tomorrow.
"Emily ran two very controlled races," said Maus. "Her theme today was to just make it to tomorrow. She really just wanted to be good enough to advance and give herself a shot at potentially winning two races tomorrow. She is in a really good spot heading into the finals of both events."
The junior will compete in the finals of the 1-mile run Saturday afternoon at 1 pm CST and will compete at in the 800-meter run finals at 3:15 pm CST.
"We like where we are at after day one," said Maus. "We had a really great first day and we like what we were able to do on the first day."
