Women's Track & Field sets DMR school record, finish second at Joe Banks Invite
ADA — The Ohio Northern women's track was busy yet successful this weekend, traveling to the Youngstown State National Invitational on Friday and then hosting the Joe Banks Invitational on Saturday.
At YSU, the DMR squad consisting of juniors Lydia Weaver, Alison Steinbrunner and Jordan Buchanan, and freshman Shayla Siefker broke a school record and set an NCAA provisional mark with a time of 12:17.26 for first place.
At the Joe Banks Invite, the Polar Bears finished second out of seven teams with 160 points to move them to 7-3 overall.
Otterbein won the event with 254 points. Muskingum finished third with 92 points, followed by Defiance with 60. Bluffton (55), Heidelberg (26) and Ohio Wesleyan (17) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Senior Aubrie Stechschulte won pole vault at a height of 11-5.75 and took third place in long jump with a leap of 16-1.
Sophomore Vicki Moga also took first in high jump, clearing 5-02.25.
The 4x800 team of sophomores Brooke Larsen, Erin Radigan, Brittany Lang and freshman Caitlin Huber took a first place finish with a time of 10:22.11.
Also recording a first place mark was senior Mallory Bloom in the 3,000 run with a time of 11:03.70.
Placing second in triple jump was sophomore Emily Blum with a mark of 33-01.25. Also taking second was the 4x400 team (Larsen, freshman Sarah Meyer, sophomore Katie Klopp, junior Laura Avino) in 3:35.19.
Northern also recorded six third place finishes throughout the day.
"It was a good preparation weekend before All-Ohio. A lot of teams earned conference and All-Ohio marks as well," said coach Jason Maus. "It was a good day. It's also always good to be at home and allow family and friends come out and support us."
The Polar Bears are back in action on next Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein.
