Women tied for 2nd, Men tied for 3rd after Day 1 of OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

ALLIANCE - The Ohio Northern women's track & field team sits in a tie for second place, while the men's track & field team is tied for third place after Day 1 of the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mount Union.

Mount Union leads the women's event with 63 points. Baldwin-Wallace and Ohio Northern share second place with 29 points apiece.

Heidelberg (42 points), Baldwin-Wallace (41 points) and Ohio Northern (31) and Mount Union (31) claim the top four spots on the men's side.

The men were able to earn two event victories on Day 1.

Senior Alan Bowsher repeated as OAC Champion in the 10,000-meter run. Bowsher won the event in 32:37.23.

The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Travis Isenberg, Corey Bailey, Dan Smith and Ben Ankrom also won in 7:42.53.

The Polar Bear women were led by their 4x800-meter squad as well. Rachel Smith, Amanda Binkey, Alison Steinbrunner and Brittany Farber finished second in 9:27.75.

Mallory Bloom and Lauren Wood finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 10,000-meter run. Bloom crossed the finish line in 41:42.47, while Wood did so in 42:33.39.

The pole vault, discus, long jump and javelin for both the men and women were also scored on Day 1, but complete results are not yet available. Check back to ONUSports.com for updated results.

The Polar Bears will look to repeat as champions in both the men's and women's competition tomorrow when the OAC Championships conclude.
