Women's Swimming and Diving wins 13 of 14 events, posts 181-80 victory at Wilmington

WILMINGTON — The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team opened its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule on Friday evening with a 181-80 win at Wilmington.

Meet Highlights
- Fifth-year senior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) led ONU with four first-place finishes. She won the 50 back in :32.27, the 100 back in 1:11.40 and the 100 IM in 1:16.81 and was part of the first-place 200 medley relay team with a time of 2:11.80.
- Junior Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) and freshman Ashleigh Nelson (Byron Center, Mich.) each posted three first-place and one second-place finish. They both joined Starkey on the 200 medley relay team.
- Brown was first in the 50 breast in :38.70 and as a member of the 200 free relay team in 2:01.71 and was second in the 100 breast in 1:24.00.
- Nelson was first in the 50 free in :29.90 and the 100 free in 1:06.19 and was second to Starkey in the 100 IM in 1:16.91.
- Sophomore Meghan Mattison (Easton, Pa.) won three events. She was first in the 100 fly in 1:12.60 and the 50 fly in :32.60 and joined Brown on the 200 free relay team.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 14 events, including 12 individual races and two relays. There were no diving events.
- The Polar Bears posted first-place finishes in 13 of the 14 events.
- The meet was the second of 11 regular season contests for Ohio Northern.
- Austin Veltman is now 22-22 in his sixth season as head coach of the Polar Bears.
