GEORGETOWN, Tex. — The Ohio Northern's women's lacrosse team wrapped up its spring break slate with a thrilling 9-8 victory over Suffolk (Mass.) on Saturday. 
 
The Basics
  • Records: Ohio Northern (5-4 Overall), Suffolk (Mass.) (2-3 Overall).
  • Venue: Varsity Field - Georgetown, Tex.

The Game 

  • Junior Abbi Arnold (Pickerington/Central) led the Polar Bears with two goals and two assists. 
  • Freshman Amber Regan (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) added three goals in the contest.
  • The Rams led 2-0 after the first period.
  • Arnold found the back of the net with 7:42 left in the second period to put Northern on the scoreboard. 
  • The Orange and Black opened the third period on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 4-4. 
  • After a Suffolk goal, senior Elena Martin (Canfield) found the back of the net to tie it up at 5-5. 
  • SU led 6-5 heading into the fourth period.
  • Regan gave the Polar Bears the lead 7-6 by finding the net twice early in the fourth period.
  • The Rams took the lead 8-7 before Lehman found the net with 4:47 left for the equalizer tying 8-8.
  • A free position goal from Martin gave Ohio Northern a 9-8 lead with less than two minutes left in the contest.
  • The Polar Bear defense held on late to keep the lead and earn the victory.
  • Suffolk was led by Julia Dickinson with three goals in the contest.
  • Sophomore Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had seven saves and earned the win in goal for Ohio Northern. 
  • ONU out-shot SU 31-19 but SU had the ground ball advantage 21-14. 

Notables

  • Martin leads the Polar Bears in scoring this season with 27 points on 19 goals and eight assists.
  • Lehman is second with 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists. 
  • Senior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) is first in ONU history in career goals with 135 and second in points with 166. 
  • She also has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 44.
  • Martin is second in points with 157 and third in career goals with 118.
  • She is second in draw controls with 209 and is fourth with 39 assists.
  • Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her third season at Ohio Northern and has a 24-20 record, a winning percentage of .545.
