Burden, Hoersten lead Women's Lacrosse to 15-10 road win at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE — Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team earned a 15-10 victory at Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on a rainy Wednesday evening.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (10-4 overall, 3-1 OAC), Otterbein (1-12 overall, 0-4 OAC).
• Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio.

The Game

• Senior Keaghan Burden (Brunswick) finished the contest with five goals and one assist to lead the Polar Bears.
• Junior Emma Hoersten (Hilliard/Davidson) scored a five-goal hat trick in the game. 
• Junior Elena Martin (Canfield) had five assists in the game to help Northern. 
• ONU and OU opened the contest by trading goals, with Burden scoring three of them as Northern led 5-4.
• After two Otterbein goals, junior Mackenzie Miller (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) and senior Gabby Monastra (Wooster) each found the net to make it 7-6 heading into halftime. 
• Burden scored at 14:38 to begin the second half for the Polar Bears.
• The Orange and Black followed the Burden goal with a 6-1 run to extend the lead to 14-7 heading into the fourth period.
• The Northern defense held strong in the last 3:30 of the fourth period to keep the 15-10 lead intact. 
• The Cardinals were led by Ava Robey, who had four goals and three assists. 
• Senior Emma LoGiudice (Wooster) had a game-high six ground balls in the contest. 
• Freshman Kara Fox (South Euclid/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) had 10 saves to earn the win in goal. 
• ONU out-shot OU 26-23 but OU had the ground ball advantage 16-14.

• This victory secured the program record for most wins in a season with 10 wins.
• OU leads the all-time series 9-1. 
• Hoersten now has nine hat tricks this season and 17 in her career.
• She is second in ONU history in career goals with 112 and in points with 135. 
• Hoersten also leads the team this season in goals with 51.
• She has the ONU career record in free-position goals with 39.
• Burden is first all-time in Ohio Northern history with 220 career points. She is also ONU's all-time career leader with 120 assists and is third with 98  career goals.
• Burden leads the team in points this season with 63. 
• Martin leads the team with 59 draw controls this year and is third all-time with 168.
• Head coach Margo Vandeveld is in her second season at Ohio Northern and has a 19-12 record, a winning percentage of .612.
