Alfes wins Medalist honors on a national stage as Women's Golf finishes 8th at Berry (Ga.) Chik-Fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. — Senior Marisa Alfes led the Ohio Northern women's golf team on the national stage, taking Medalist honors at the Berry (Ga.) Chick-fil-A Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished 8th of 14th teams with 667 total strokes for 36 holes.
- ONU Season Record: 26-9.
- No. 19-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) took first as a team with a 600, No. 23 Huntingdon (Ala.) was second with a 618, No. 47 Southern Virginia was third with a 632 and No. 31 Oglethorpe (Ga.) was fourth with a 636.
- No. 24 Sewanee (Tenn.) also competed in the tournament, finishing just nine strokes ahead of ONU.

ONU Individuals
- Alfes won Medalist honors for the third time this season, going 2-over par 75-72—147 in the 86-player field.
- Sophomore Taylor Blackburn (Liberty Township/Lakota West) took 49th place with an 87-84--171.
- Sophomore Mallory Meister (Milan/Edison) was 54th with an 85-89--174.
- Freshman Addison Williams (Bristolville/Bristol) was 58th, going 91-84--175.
- Playing as an individual, freshman Myra Batra (New Delhi, India/Shiv Nadar) was 70th with a 95-88--183.
- Freshman Danika Eagle (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) was 74th with a 96-89--185.
Notables
- Alfes shot a blazing 1-under-par on the second day, solidifying her tiebreaker over two other 147-stroke finishers.
- Her second round 71 was the lowest in the field on Tuesday, earning her Medalist honors via the tournament's Round 2 tiebreaker.
- The field consisted of nine players ranked in the top 130 in NCAA Division III.
- Alfes entered the tournament ranked #57 nationally.
- Blackburn had a thrilling finish, holing out for an eagle on the 18th hole from 50 yards.
- Head coach Chad Bucci is 544-327-2 in his 13th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .624.
