WEST LAFAYETTE — Ohio Northern is in second place, just one shot off the lead after the first 27 holes, on day one of the 2024 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Golf Tournament on Friday.

The Basics

  • The Polar Bears carded a 42-over par 311-163--474 to stand in second place out of nine teams in the 72-hole tournament.
  • Otterbein leads the team standings with a 473, Mount Union is third with a 482 and Heidelberg is fourth with a 506.

  • Senior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) is second of 44 golfers with a 74-38--112.
  • Junior Amelia Burger (Centerville) is tied for fifth with a 78-39--117.
  • Sophomore Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) is tied for ninth with a 77-44--121.
  • Fifth-year senior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) and junior Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) are tied for 18th with 128.

Notables

  • Honigford has been Medalist 21 times in 45 career tournaments. 
  • The top 14 individuals and ties earn All-Conference honors.
  • The tournament consists of 27 holes on Friday, 27 more on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
  • Head coach Chad Bucci is 436-283-2 in his 11th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .606.
