Women's Golf in seventh place after 27 holes of 16-team Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Ohio Northern women's golf team is seventh of 16 teams after 27 holes of the 36-hole Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling on Saturday at Ironwood Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (61-6 overall) carded a 315-156—471 in the tournament which includes seven teams ranked in the top 25 and 12 ranked in the top 50 nationally.

No. 13-ranked Illinois Wesleyan is first with a 445, No. 1 Emory (Ga.) is second with a 447, No. 12 Saint Catherine (Minn.) is third with a 449 and No. 3 Washington (Mo.) is fourth with a 465.

Ohio Northern, who is ranked No. 34 nationally, is ahead of No. 22 Grinnell (Iowa) by one shot and No. 24 Christopher Newport (Va.) by 17 shots.

Sophomore Amelia Burger (Centerville) leads the Polar Bears with a 6-over par 114 to stand tied for 15th out of 110 golfers.

Junior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) and Freshman Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) are tied for 22nd place with 9-over par 117s.

sophomore Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) is tied for 51st with a 15-over par 123 and senior Isabella Orofino (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) is tied for 86th with a 21-over par 129.

The teams played 27 holes on Saturday in anticipation of inclement weather on Sunday.

The Polar Bears are scheduled to wrap up the tournament with the final nine holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. CST.
