Women's Golf breaks 18-hole team record, wins 5-team Capital Classic

REYNOLDSBURG — Sophomore Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) won Medalist honors and the Ohio Northern women's golf team had the top three finishers to win the Capital Classic in record-setting fashion on Monday at the Blacklick Golf Course.
The Polar Bears (42-5 overall) finished the 27-hole tournament with a 314-147—461, breaking the program's 18-hole team record of 316 set earlier this season.
Otterbein finished second with a 488, Muskingum was third with a 533, Mount Union was fourth with a 540 and Capital was fifth with a 562.
Honigford won Medalist honors for the third time this year and the ninth time in her career with a 2-over par 76-34—110.
Per NCAA rules, women's golfers are only allowed to play in 18-hole increments, so the final 9-holes played will not count toward the individual scores, team scores or the NCAAs statistics.
Freshman freshman Amelia Burger (Centerville) tied Honigford with na 18-hole total of 76 and finished tied for second for 27 holes with a 76-38—114.
Freshman Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) was third officially with a first round 77 and tied for second over 27 holes with a 77-37—114.
Junior Isabella Orofino (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) tied for 11th with an 85-38—123 and sophomore Rylie Smith (Cambridge/Buckeye Trail) was 11th with an 85-46—131.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their Fall schedule Oct. 25-26 at the Berry (Ga.) Invitational.
