Sophomore Grace Honigford breaks school record with 1-under par 71 to lead Women's Golf to victory at ONU Invitational

HARROD — Sophomore Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) fired a school record 1-under par 71 to win Medalist honors and lead the Ohio Northern women's golf team to a victory at the three-team ONU Invitational on Monday at Colonial Golfers Club.
The Polar Bears (4-0 overall) finished with a 325. ONU divided up into four fairly even squads and finished 1-4 with 329, 362 and 387 strokes, respectively.
Bluffton officially finished second with a 413 and Defiance was third with a 416.
Honigford became the first Ohio Northern women's golfer to break par tournament action. She broke the previous school record of a 1-over par 73 set in 2008 by Meagan Brennan at the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling.
Honigford has won Medalist honors eight times in 13 tournaments in her career, including in both tournaments this weekend.
Sophomore Isabella Orofino (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) tied her career-low with a 79 to finish second out of 30 golfers and freshman Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) was third with a career-low 80.
The squad's team total of 325 is the sixth-best team score in Ohio Northern history.
ONU will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Olivet (Mich.) Invitational.
