Women's Basketball improves to 3-1 in the OAC with 82-51 win over Heidelberg

TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team earned an 82-51 win over Heidelberg on Wednesday evening to improve to 3-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (4-9 Overall, 3-1 OAC), Heidelberg (1-10 Overall, 0-3 OAC).
- Venue: Seiberling Gymnasium — Tiffin, Ohio.
The Game
- Sophomore Emerson Gray (Liberty Center) led the Polar Bears with 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
- Junior Courtney Sumner (Ada) added 11 points and two steals.
- Sophomore Logan Phillips (Troy/Miami East) had 10 points and two steals.
- Junior Lexee Brewer (Sidney) also had a team-high four steals, six boards, and four assists to go with eight points.
- Heidelberg was led by Brenna Williams with 19 points.
- An 11-2 run gave the Polar Bears a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Student Princes scored first in the second quarter, but ONU answered with a 10-0 run to lead 31-13 with 6:10 left in the half.
- Northern outscored the Student Princes 31-12 in the second quarter to lead 52-23 at halftime.
- ONU led 72-38 after three quarters.
- A layup from senior Liz Key (Liberty Township/Lakota West) with 7:57 left in the game gave the Polar Bears a 39-point lead, their biggest of the game.
- Ohio Northern made 29-of-69 field goals for 42.0 percent and was 4-of-15 from beyond the arc for 26.7 percent, while Heidelberg was 16-of-45 from the floor for 35.6 percent and finished 1-of-9 on 3-pointers for 11.1 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 20-of-25 free throws for 80.0 percent and the Student Princes were 18-of-23 from the line for 78.3 percent.
- ONU out-rebounded HU 43-30.

- Gray leads the Polar Bears in scoring (13.0 ppg), assists (2.2 apg) and steals (1.9 spg) and is second in rebounding (5.4 rpg) this season.
- Pauling leads the team in rebounding with 5.5 rpg and is second on the team in scoring at 11.9 ppg.
- Brewer also leads the Polar Bears in steals with 1.9 spg and is second in assists with 1.8 apg.
- This is the 54th season of Ohio Northern women's basketball. The Polar Bears are now 782-524 all-time in program history for a winning percentage of .599.
- Sixth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 91-47 at Ohio Northern, a winning percentage of .659.
