Pauling leads Women's Basketball in close 48-40 loss to Westminster (Pa.) at Washington & Jefferson Tip-Off

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Sophomore Charlotte Pauling (Beavercreek) led the Ohio Northern women's basketball team in a close 48-40 loss to Westminster (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at the Washington & Jefferson Tip-Off.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (0-2 Overall), Westminster (2-2 Overall).

The Game
- Pauling had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Polar Bears.
- Sophomore Emerson Gray (Liberty Center) also had a team-high two assists, eight rebounds and nine points.
- Juniors Courtney Sumner (Ada) and Lexee Brewer (Sidney) led the team with two steals each.
- The Titans were led by Katie Grexa with 15 points.
- Westminster jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but layups from Pauling and Gray made the score 5-4 with 7:49 left in the first quarter.
- WC led 10-6 after one quarter.
- Northern went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter to make the score 15-12 with 3:14 left in the half.
- ONU outscored WC 11-4 in the second quarter to take a 17-14 lead going into halftime.
- Westminster led 30-28 at the end of the third quarter.
- The Titans had a 13 point lead with 2:41 left in the game, but back-to-back fast break layups from Gray and Brewer cut the lead to nine.
- The Polar Bears cut the lead to 46-40 with 34 seconds left, but they could not complete the comeback.
- Ohio Northern made 17-of-71 field goals for 23.9 percent and was 4-of-35 from beyond the arc for 11.4 percent, while Westminster was 14-of-51 from the floor for 27.5 percent and finished 4-of-16 on 3-pointers for 25.0 percent.
- The Polar Bears made 2-of-6 free throws for 33.3 percent and the Presidents were 16-of-18 from the line for 88.9 percent.
