Senior Brynn Serbin pours in a career-high 25 points, leads Women's Basketball to 71-37 victory at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — Senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) poured in a career-high 25 points, including 22 in the first half, as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Mount Union 71-37 on Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Polar Bears improve to 7-1 overall and are 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders fall to 4-5, 1-2.
Serbin scored 22 of her points in the first half, surpassing her previous high of 18 points, as ONU held a 43-27 lead at intermission.
Northern opened the second half on an 8-0 run and it was 51-27 with 7:27 to go in the third quarter.
Ohio Northern led 59-35 after three quarters and outscored Mount Union 12-2 in the fourth quarter to end the contest.
Senior Kasey Knippen (Ottoville) joined Serbin in double figures with 13 points and freshman Mackenzie Suprano (Cutler/Waterford) added 11 points for ONU.
Mount Union was led by Gretchen Koken with 11 points.
The 34-point margin of victory was the largest in the series since an 88-42 ONU victory in Alliance in 1988.
ONU made 20-of-55 field goals for 40.0 percent and was 14-of-33 from 3-point range for 42.4 percent, while UMU made 13-of-53 field goals for 24.5 percent and was 4-of-25 from beyond the arc for 16.0 percent.
Ohio Northern was 13-of-17 from the free-throw line for 76.5 percent and Mount Union was 7-of-10 for 70.0 percent.
Northern out-rebounded the Purple Raiders by a 46-29 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday, Dec. 17, when they host Capital at 4 pm in the second game of a men's/women's double header at the ONU Sports Center.
