Bockey, Snyder and Mengos honored as 2011 Academic All-OAC recipients
ADA — Three women's basketball players have been recognized by the Ohio Athletic Conference faculty athletic representatives for their achievements in the classroom while also balancing tremendous efforts on the hardwood.
Senior Jeanne Bockey (Delphos/St. John) has been selected as a 2011 Academic All-OAC, while sophomores Joanna Snyder (Fort Recovery) and Katie Mengos (Troy/Miami East) have been named Academic All-OAC Honorable Mention.
Bockey, a middle childhood education major, started in all 27 games for the Polar Bears and led the team in points per game (13.3) and steals (37). She also finished second in assists (57) and third in rebounding (4.7).
Snyder, a math education major, started in 23 of the 27 games in which she appeared. She led ONU from 3-point range, dropping 19 of 37 attempts for a .514 average. Snyder also recorded 7.8 points and 3.3 boards per game.
Mengos, a pharmacy major, started in 24 of 25 games in which she saw time and led the Polar Bears with 66 assists. Those coupled with her 72 from her freshman season places Mengos 19th in the program's career assists category.
Northern finished the season with a 17-10 overall record, a 11-7 mark in the conference and its ninth OAC tournament appearance in 10 seasons.
