BLUFFTON — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a doubleheader to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears fell 6-5 in the opener and 13-10 in the nightcap.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (9-24 Overall, 3-10 OAC), Baldwin Wallace (17-9 Overall, 10-6 OAC).
- Venue: Bluffton Field — Bluffton, Ohio.
Game 1 — L, 5-6
- Baldwin Wallace scored first in the top of the first.
- In the bottom of the inning, freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson) scored on a throwing error after junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) flied out to center field.
- In the second inning, senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) reached on a fielder's choice to score senior Kylie King (London/Jonathan Alder), giving Northern a 2-1 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the fourth inning, then scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
- The Polar Bears answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 5-5.
- King hit an RBI double down the left field line, freshman Molly Goudy (Hilliard/Darby) stole home, and Wilson hit a sacrifice fly.
- Baldwin Wallace hit a home run in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead.
- ONU and BWU each had 10 hits.
Game 2 - L, 10-13
- Baldwin Wallace scored five runs in the top of the first.
- In the bottom of the inning, Schroeder started things off for the Polar Bears with an RBI single to score Ray.
- King then hit a 2-RBI double to cut BWU's lead to 5-3.
- In the second inning, Ray hit an RBI double, then Mason hit an RBI single to tie the game up.
- Northern then took a 6-5 lead with another RBI single from Schroeder.
- The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the third inning, then four runs in the fourth inning.
- Schroeder hit her third RBI single of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
- King hit another 2-RBI double to cut the lead to 10-9.
- Baldwin Wallace scored three more runs in the fifth inning.
- In the bottom of the seventh, junior Alaina Baughn (Greenville) hit an RBI single to score Wilson.
- ONU out-hit BWU 15-11.
