COLUMBUS — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a doubleheader at Capital on Friday afternoon 5-2 and 6-5.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-20 Overall, 2-8 OAC), Capital (16-12 Overall, 5-5 OAC).
- Venue: Clowson Field — Columbus, Ohio.
Game 1 — L, 2-5
- Freshman Ellie Mason (New Philadelphia) smashed a 2-run home run to lead the Polar Bears.
- The Comets scored twice in the second and third innings and got a single run in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead.
- Junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) and sophomores Mackenzie Hannahs (Alexandria/Northridge) and Alyssa Hochstetler (Akron/Springfield) each had two hits in the game for Ohio Northern.
- ONU out-hit CU 8-7.
Game 2 — L, 5-6
- Ohio Northern broke open a 2-2 tie with a 3-run seventh inning, capped by an RBI double by Schroeder, to grab a 5-2 lead.
- But Capital would answer with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to escape with the 6-5 win.
- Schroeder had a RBI ground out in the top of the first and sophomore Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) had a run-scoring single in the fourth for ONU.
- Schroeder hit another RBI single in the fifth inning to score freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson).
- ONU out-hit CU 10-7.
