Softball wraps up spring break trip with wins over Pittsburgh-Greensburg and Wisconsin-Stout

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up its spring break trip with wins over Pitt.-Greensburg (Pa.) and Wisconsin-Stout on Friday.
The Polar Bears opened the day with a big 8-0 win over Pitt.-Greensburg (Pa.) and wrapped up the trip with a 5-4 win over Wisconsin-Stout.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (5-5 Overall), Pitt.-Greensburg (2-8 Overall), UW-Stout (5-4 Overall).

Pitt.-Greensburg Game - W, 8-0 (5 innings)
- The game was called after five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
- Ohio Northern scored four runs in the top of the second inning, starting with an RBI double from junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) to score sophomore Maggie Arno (Williamsburg).
- Schroeder then scored on a passed ball.
- Sophomore Alyssa Hochstetler (Akron/Springfield) hit an RBI double to left center, then scored on an error after stealing third base.
- In the top of the third, sophomore Clare Flory (Marcellus, Mich.) hit a 2-run double to make the score 6-0.
- The Polar Bears scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, one from a Bobcat error and one from an RBI single by Hochstetler.
- Schroeder and Hochstetler each went 2-for-3 to lead Northern.
- Sophomore Avery Neth (Williamsburg) (2-1) got the win in the circle, striking out three and only allowing four hits.

UW-Stout Game - W, 5-4
- UW-Stout got out to a 3-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the third inning, freshman Alexa Ray (Worthington/Bishop Watterson) scored on an error to make it 3-1.
- In the fourth inning, the Polar Bears took advantage of two errors, a wild pitch and to hits to score three times and take a 4-3 lead.
- Freshman Kylie Pytlak (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) hit an RBI single up the middle to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Blue Devils scored one run in the top of the seventh to cut ONU's lead to one, but Freshman Natalie Gonzalez (San Diego, Calif./Bonita Vista) came on relief to retire all three batters she faced to slam the door and pick up her first career save.
- Schroeder went 3-for-4 to lead Northern.
- Freshman Sydney Freiberg (Yorkville, Ill.) (1-1) pitched 3.0 innings of relief and got the win in the circle for the Polar Bears.
- ONU out-hit UW-Stout 10-8.

- The Polar Bears played 10 games this week in The Spring Games tournament.
- This was Ohio Northern's first meeting with both teams in program history.
- Schroeder went 5-for-7 with three runs and one RBI to lead the Polar Bears.
- Ray leads the team in batting at .344, followed by sophomore Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) (.321) and Schroeder (.290).
- Senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) is tied for 25th all-time at ONU with 131 career base hits.
