KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team opened its 2026 season with a victory over North Park (Ill.) and a loss to Wheaton (Mass.) on Sunday morning.
The Polar Bears opened the day with a 1-0 loss to Wheaton and wrapped the day up with a 5-1 victory over North Park.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (1-1 Overall), Wheaton (3-0 Overall), North Park (3-1 Overall).
- Venue: Fortune Road — Kissimmee, Fla.
Wheaton Game - L, 0-1
- The Lyons plated the game's only run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to break the 0-0 tie.
- Junior Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) went 2-for-3 to lead the Polar Bear offense.
- Freshman Brooklyn Osterloh (Minster) (0-1) was outstanding in her collegiate debut, striking out six and allowing only five hits in the complete game.
- ONU out-hit WC 5-4.
North Park Game - W, 5-1
- Northern scored four runs in the top of the first, keyed by a 2-run single by sophomore Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) to grab control of the game early.
- Leading 4-1, senior Ashley Simko (Lebanon) picked up her second RBI of the game to score freshman Ellie Mason (New Philadelphia) with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
- Sophomore Avery Neth (Williamsburg) (1-0) allowed just four hits while striking out five to pick up the complete game victory in the circle.
- NPU out-hit ONU 4-3.

- The Polar Bears are slated to play 10 games this week in The Spring Games tournament.
- Senior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) is tied for 26th all-time at ONU with 129 career base hits.
- Wilson needs just one home run and 8 RBI to break into ONU's top-10 lists in those categories.
