Softball splits doubleheader with Heidelberg on Senior Day

ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team split a doubleheader with Heidelberg on Senior Day on Friday evening. ONU won the first game 10-2, but fell 15-8 in the nightcap.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (19-21 Overall, 12-6 OAC), Heidelberg (20-20 Overall, 7-11 OAC).
- Venue: Durbin-Hileman Stadium — Ada, Ohio.
Game 1 - W, 10-2 (5 innings)
- Heidelberg scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning.
- In the bottom of the inning, junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) hit a 2-run homer to tie up the game.
- Freshman Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) hit an RBI single, also in the first inning, to go up 3-2.
- In the third inning, senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) hit a solo homer to right field.
- Wilson hit a 2-RBI single and two more runs scored on an error in the fourth inning, making the score 8-2.
- In the fifth inning, freshman Jaylee Fansler (Plainfield, Ind./Avon) hit an RBI single and Rosser hit an RBI double to end the game in 5 innings.
- Rosser went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs, while Wilson went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs to lead the Polar Bears.
- Senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) got the win in the circle for the Polar Bears, striking out 3 and improving to 15-10 on the season.
- ONU out-hit HU 15-6.
Game 2 - L, 8-15
- Heidelberg scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
- Northern answered with three runs of their own, with RBIs from Rosser, Marker, and freshman Alyssa Hochstetler (Akron/Springfield).
- The Student Princes scored five runs in the second inning.
- In the bottom of the second, Lenser and senior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) each hit RBI singles.
- HU scored four more runs in the third inning.
- In the third inning, senior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) stole second, soring Hochstetler.
- ONU scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
- Heidelberg scored three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
- Rosser went 4-for-5 with one RBI.
- Lenser pitched six innings, striking out eight.
Notables
- ONU has clinched a spot in the 4-team Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend.
- Ohio Northern is now 66-23 all-time against Heidelberg.
- Rosser had a 8-for-9 day with three RBIs and five runs.
- Lenser now has 123 strikeouts this season, which ranks fourth-best in ONU history. She also has 15 wins, which is ranked 6th all-time.
- Lenser is now second in ONU history with 363 career strikeouts and third with 50 career victories in the circle.
- Wilson, Rosser and Lenser lead the team in batting through 38 games this season with averages of .423, .402 and .400, respectively.
- Ohio Northern is in its 58th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 1,015-701-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .591.
- Head coach Summer Collins is in her first season at Ohio Northern.
