ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern softball team fell 5-4, and 10-2 in six innings Friday afternoon at No. 20-ranked Mount Union at 23rd Street Softball Field.
Sophomore Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) and senior Abby Davis (New Palestine, Ind.) led the ONU offense with three hits each on the day.
In game one the Polar Bears fell 5-4.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning senior Alicia Swierz (Deerfield/Southeast) hit a 2-RBI single to tie the game at two apiece.
After a Mount Union run in the third inning, back-to-back Polar Bear singles by Davis and Murray gave ONU the lead 4-3 in the top of the fourth.
The Purple Raiders used a two-run sixth inning and then shut down Northern in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.
In game two, the Purple Raiders used a six-run third inning to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back.
The game ended in six innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
Northern totaled 13 hits on the day.
The two teams will continue their 4-game series with a 1 pm double header at home against Mount Union on Saturday.
