The Polar Bears set a school record with their 40th victory and advance to the championship game with a 40-6 record, while the Bears see their season end with a 37-11 mark.
Northern will now advance from the losers braket to play No. 10-ranked DePauw (Ind.), who reached the finals undefeated through the winners bracket, Sunday at 2 pm in the tournament finals.
Should Northern defeat DePauw, the two teams will play again Monday at 10 am for the regional title and a bid to the NCAA III World Series May 21-25 at Eau Claire, Wis.
The Polar Bears won the Greencastle Regional title in 2009 with a 4-1 record.
Built a 6-0 lead in the first three innings on home runs by sophomore Jackie Mangola, senior Tina Mangola, sophomore Kimi Blewett and sophomore Cassie Gaye.
Then Tina Mangola turned the defensive play of the tournament, robbing Corissa Santos of a grand slam in the sixth inning that would have trimmed ONU's lead to 7-6, and instead kept the Polar Bears comfortably ahead 7-3 entering the final frame.
Northern got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first, when senior Mandi Fought laced the first pitch to deep left field for a triple and Jackie Mangola followed with a towering home run to left to make it 2-0 Polar Bears.
One out later, Tina Mangola drilled her 12th home run of the season to center to make it 3-0 Ohio Northern, knocking out WU's All-American pitcher Claire Voris after just one-third of an inning.
Jackie Mangola's home run was her school record 13th of the season and was her second of the Regional tournament. She also had a pair of home runs in the 2009 regional tournament, giving her four NCAA Tournament dingers in her career.
Tina Mangola's home run was the school-record 38th of her career.
Not to be outdone, Blewett blasted her 12th home run of the year down the left field line to lead off the third frame to give the Polar Bears a 4-0 advantage.
After Tina Mangola drew a walk, Gaye hit her eighth home run of the year, drilling one out to deep left center field, to put Ohio Northern up 6-0.
Jackie Mangola led off the bottom of the fourth with a line drive double to left center and scored two outs later on a sharp single to center by sophomore Katie Cretin to give ONU a 7-0 advantage.
Senior Cortney Cash had a no-hitter going through four innings, but Washington broke through with a solo home run by Ally Berenter to lead off the top of fifth to trim Northern's lead to 7-1.
Alyssa Abramoski followed with a two-out RBI double to make it a 7-2 game.
Washington loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and Santos appeared to have hit a grand slam, but Tina Mangola reached over the right field fence and robbed Santos of the home run, then doubled off the WU runner on first base to end the inning.
Megan Fieser tagged from third and scored on the play, but Mangola's defensive effort kept ONU's lead at a comfortable 7-3.
Cash picked up the complete-game victory, improving to 21-4 on the season.
