Junior Lucas Shumate named the OAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week

ADA — Junior Lucas Shumate was named the Men's Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 11-17.

The junior earns his second Athlete of the Week honor for the 2016 Outdoor Season.

Shumate led ONU last weekend at the All-Ohio Championships winning the hammer throw with an ONU school record pitch of 187 feet 2 inches.

He broke the previous record of 183 feet 5 inches set by Jason Horn.

The junior is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the event.

The Polar Bears finished third at the All-Ohio Championships with 105.5 points.

Northern returns to action Saturday as they host the Polar Bear Invitational at Kerscher Stadium.
