Men’s Track & Field remains undefeated with dominating performance at Anderson (Ind.) Invitational
ANDERSON, Ind. — The Ohio Northern men's track team had an dominating performance at the Anderson (Ind.) Invitational this weekend to secure the overall team victory.
The team scored 244 points to take home the overall title. St. Francis (Ind.) came in second with 81 points, while Goshen scored 80 points to claim third.
With the win, the Polar Bears remain undefeated, improving to 26-0 this spring.
ONU swept the 800-meter run. With Joe Amstutz (1:57.72), Eric Porter (1:59.09), and Corey Bailey (2:00.42) all finishing within three seconds of each other to sweep the top three spots. Freshmen Chris Fortson (2:01.43) also earned points for his fifth place finish.
Northern also swept the 400-meter dash with Jimmy O'Brien (49.64), Jake Schwab (52.06), and Jeff Otte (52.85) taking the top three spots. In addition, Mike Johnson (55.99) placed seventh.
Northern sprinters had a great showing. In the 200-meter dash, Northern took spots two through seven, as Ryan Fleming (22.52), Travis Althouse (22.74), Justin Linzy (22.92), Evan Heyman (23.13), Shane Huntley (23.44), and Jake Schaeffer (23.64) all finished within 1.10 seconds of each other.
Fleming (11.20), Althouse (11.39), and Linzy (11.42) would go on to place two through four in the 100-meter dash.
In the field events, the pole vaulters had a strong showing as Andy Lammers claimed the title with a vault of 4.70 meters, followed by Jacob Weyruach (4.55), Paul Metzner (4.25), and Jerad Kauffman (3.95) taking spots two through four.
Senior Thomas Adam won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:08.21.
Garrett Brown won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.78, followed by Tim Polack, who ran a 17.59 to take second.
Northern's two teams in the 4x400 meter relay finished first and second with times of 3:23.86 and 3:25.33, respectively.
The 4x100 relay team also won with a time of 42.39.
The Polar Bears return to action next Saturday as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for the All-Ohio Championships.
