Men's Tennis tops Wittenberg, falls at No. 4 Denison in Sunday tri-match

GRANVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team split a tri-match on Sunday, defeating Wittenberg 7-0 in the afternoon after falling to No. 4-ranked Denison 7-0 in the morning.

- Sophomore Noah Boyce (Oakwood) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to lead the Polar Bears.
- Junior Austin Asada (Findlay) won 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 2 singles.
- Freshman Roberto Mucarsel (Quito, Equador/Colegio Menor San Francisco de Quito) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
- Sophomore Jakub Wierzba (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
- Sophomore Ethan Remy (Lexington) and freshman Dylan Catanese (Lexington) won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
- Junior Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) and senior Aaron Davis (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
- The Polar Bears won Nos. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles by forfeit as the Tigers only had four players available.

- The Big Red won its 14th consecutive match by sweeping all nine courts.
- Freshman Nick Miller (Toledo/St. Francis) had the closest battle, falling 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.

- Catanese leads the Polar Bears thus far this season with a 17-8 singles mark, a 14-9 doubles mark and a 31-17 overall record.
- Freshman Aiden Yeager (Springfield/Northwestern) is second with 14 singles wins and 26 overall victories.
- Wood also has a team-best 14 doubles wins.
- Wood is 97-62 in his career and needs just three more victories to become the 25th member of ONU's 100-Win Club.
- Junior Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) is 11-10 in singles action, 10-9 in doubles play and is 21-19 overall.
- Ohio Northern is in its 89th season of men's tennis and has a 742-375-5 record, a winning percentage of .664.
- Fourth-year head coach Sean Swisher is 53-31 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .631.
