Men's Tennis opens winter schedule with tight 4-3 loss to Hope (Mich.)

LIMA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened its 2026 winter schedule on Friday with a tight 4-3 loss to Hope (Mich.).
The Basics

ONU Highlights
- Freshmen Dylan Catanese (Lexington) won twice to lead the Polar Bears.
- Catanese won 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and combined with junior Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) to win 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
- Junior Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
- Sophomore Ethan Remy (Lexington) and freshman Aiden Yeager (Springfield/Northwestern) won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point for ONU.
Notables
- ONU won the doubles point by taking Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, then won at Nos. 4 and 5 singles for its three points.
- The top four singles courts all highly competitive and went three sets.
- Catanese leads the Polar Bears thus far this season with a 9-2 singles mark and a 15-5 overall record.
- Wood and Catanese are a team-best 6-3 in doubles play.
- Fourth-year head coach Sean Swisher is 45-24 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .652.
