AKRON — Sophomore Drew Keriazes wons the 200 I.M. to help lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on Day 1 of the 2011 OAC Championships Thursday at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron.
The Polar Bears currently sit in first with 75 points after the first day of the three-day championships.
John Carroll is in second with 63, followed by Mount Union with 43, Baldwin-Wallace with 38 and Wilmington with 16 points.
Keriaezes won the 200 I.M. in 1:55.20. Junior Ryan Bender took second in 1:55.50 to earn All-OAC kudos.
The ONU 400 Medley relay team of Keriazes, sophomores Max McClary, Marc Anderson and junior Anders Samuelson also took first in 3:27.68. The relay reset last years record of 3:30.22.
The Ohio Northern 200 freestyle relay team of Anderson, Keriazes, Samuelson and freshman Christian Garlock earned All-Conference honors by finishing second in 1:24.41, 13 hundredths of a second behind John Carroll who set a new OAC record finishing in 1:24.28.
The Polar Bears look to increase their lead on Day 2 of competition in Ocasek Natatorium at the OAC Championships with prelims starting at 11 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
