CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team won a 10-5 road contest at Wabash (Ind.) on a chilly Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (3-2 Overall), Wabash (Ind.) (1-4 Overall).
- Venue: Fischer Field - Crawfordsville, Ind.
The Game
- Senior Nathan Flynn (Springboro) and freshman Jack Switter (Deerfield Beach, Fla./American Heritage Plantation) each had two goals and an assist to lead Northern.
- The Polar Bear defense held Wabash scoreless for 44:44, until a goal late in the third period.
- ONU had the 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
- The Orange and Black opened the second half on a 3-0 run to extend the lead to 6-0.
- After the Little Giants goal, Northern would respond with another 3-0 run to make it 9-1 going into the fourth period.
- Senior J.D. Hale (West Chester/Lakota West) added a goal in the fourth to extend the ONU lead to 10-2.
- Wabash would go on a 3-0 run late in the game but, the Polar Bear defense held on to secure the win.
- Freshman Ben Gridley (New Hudson, Mich./South Lyon) added a team-high three assists for Northern.
- Sophomore Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Macedon) recorded 11 saves and earned the win in goal for Ohio Northern.
- ONU out-shot WC 30-27 but WC had the ground ball advantage 33-31.
Notables
- Seven Polar Bears scored goals in the contest.
- Gridley leads the Polar Bears in points with 10 on seven goals and three assists.
- Switter is the team leader in assists this season with five.
- Senior Alex Bergeron (Grafton, Mass.) is the team leader in caused turnovers this season with six.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his 11th season at Ohio Northern with a 111-55 record, a winning percentage of .668.
