ADA — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-3 decision to John Carroll on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 7-3 overall and are 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-2, 2-1.
The defenses dominated the first 30 minutes of play, as JCU led just 2-1 at halftime.
Senior Andrew Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored ONU's goal off a faceoff with 2:06 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 1-1.
John Carroll scored twice in the first three minutes of the third quarter to take a 4-1 lead.
But Ohio Northern responded with a goal by sophomore Caleb Bennett (New Market, Md./Linganore) off an assist from junior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./Saint John's College) with 5:30 left in the period.
The duo exchanged roles 2:53 later as Dempsey scored off an assist from Bennett at the 2:37 mark and it was 4-3.
JCU extended the lead to 6-3 with a goal with nine seconds left in the third and another goal with 12 seconds gone in the fourth.
The Blue Streaks out-shot Ohio Northern 31-28, but ONU won the ground ball battle 44-31.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 pm contest at Wilmington.
