ADA — Sophomore Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) and freshman Cameron Marous (Brecksville) each scored twice to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 12-8 loss to Capital on a wet Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears end their season with a 9-7 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders improve to 9-5, 6-2.
Capital raced to a quick 8-1 lead just 18 minutes into the contest.
But Ohio Northern rebounded and controlled much of play for the next 35 minutes.
ONU pulled within 9-5 by intermission and a goal by sophomore Peter Hardt (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) with 6:59 left in the game got the Polar Bears within 10-8.
Northern won the ensuing faceoff and got the ball to Marous at the left post, but his shot was deflected on a fantastic save by CU's Cole Palmby, keeping it a 2-game game.
The Crusaders then picked up insurance goals just 17 seconds apart to go up 12-8 with 3:58 to play and held on for the win.
CU edged ONU 37-34 in shots and 37-33 in ground balls.
Sophomore Anthony Pavone (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had a team-best five points with one goal and four assists in the game.
