School record effort leads Men's Golf to third place finish at OAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE - The Ohio Northern men's golf team has finished 3rd at the OAC Championships despite a stellar, school-record 54-hole effort.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished 3rd of eight teams, shooting a school record of 291-288-297—876.
- ONU Season Record: 97-21-1.
- Otterbein and Mount Union tied for first with 871s, while Marietta was 4th at 287-302-311—900. Mount Union won the team title after a two-stroke playoff.
- Venue: River Greens G.C. - West Lafayette, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Senior Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) tied for 3rd out of 40 golfers, shooting rounds of 72-72-74--218 on the 6,684-yard course.
- Freshman Zach Butcher (Medina/Highland) also tied for 3rd place, firing scores of 75-70-73--218.
- Junior Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) & sophomore Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) each finished tied for 9th place, with identical 73-73-75--221s.
- Freshman Sam Cramer (Plain City/Alder) was tied for 20th, shooting 73-73-79--225.
Notables
- Butcher and Christy, who each tied for 3rd place individually, have been named to the All-Tournament Team.
- The 54-hole score of 876 broken the previous school record of 883 , set by the same five players at the Tiffin Fall Inv. earlier this season, by seven shots.
- The 36-hole score of 579 through the first 2 days also broke the previous school record by 7 shots.
- Saturday's team score of 288 is the third-best all-time in ONU men's golf history; The Day 1 18-hole score of 291 is the fourth-best.
- The top 5 individual finishers and ties are named to the All-Tournament Team.
- The team champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships, May 12-15 at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
- ONU head coach Chad Bucci is 523-425-17 in his 13th season at the helm of the men's program, a winning percentage of .542.
