Andrew Briars wins Medalist honors as Men's Golf wins OAC Spring Preview

WEST LAFAYETTE — Senior Andrew Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) won Medalist honors and the Ohio Northern men's golf team won the OAC Spring Preview on a chilly Thursday.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished first of six teams with a 1-over par 289.
- Heidelberg was second with a 292, Otterbein was third with a 295, Marietta was fourth at 301, Muskingum was fifth at 305 and Capital was sixth at 313.
- ONU Season Record: 52-40.

ONU Individuals
- Freshman Gordon Kopmeyer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./St. Mary's) fired a career-low 71 to tie for second out of 66 golfers.
- Junior Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.) tied for fourth with a 72.
- Junior Evan Dennison (Ashland/Mapleton) and freshman Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for ninth with 73s
- Junior Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) carded a 77 to tie for 33rd.
- Playing on ONU's "B" team, Andrew Briars fired a career-low 2-under par 70 to win Medalist honors for the first time in his career.
Notables
- Ohio Northern's 289 is the third-lowest team score in program history.
- Thus far this season, Ian Briars leads the Polar Bears in scoring with a 75.56 average for 18 rounds.
- Dennison is second at 77.46 for 13 rounds and Andrew Briars is third at 77.47 for 15 rounds.
- This was the fourth of six tournaments for Ohio Northern this spring prior to the OAC Championships May 2-4.
