Men's Golf finishes second at weather-shortened Defiance Yellow Jacket Spring Invite

DEFIANCE — The Ohio Northern men's golf team finished second of four teams at the weather-shortened Defiance Yellow Jacket Spring Invitational on Friday at Eagle Rock Golf Club.

The Polar Bears (24-27-4 overall) finished with a 315-149—464 over 27 holes. Tiffin won the tournament with a 451, Alma (Mich.) was third with a 494 and Defiance did not field a complete 27-hole team score.

The tournament was scheduled to be a 36-hole affair with 18 holes Friday and 18 holes on Saturday, but the players played 27 holes on Friday as Saturday's round was canceled due to expected inclement weather.

Senior Andrew Slusher (Covington) led Ohio Northern with a second place finish out of 38 golfers, carding a 4-over par 112.

Junior Josh Steyer (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) tied for fifth with a 114, senior Jared Hernandez (Van Wert) and was tenth with 1172 and senior Nolan Kimberly (Zanesville) ied for 13th with a 121.

Playing on ONU's "B" team, freshman Adam Trigg-Holdman (Cincinnati/Roger Bacon) also tied fifth with a 114.

Slusher and Steyer were named to the All-Tournament Team as Steyer edged Trigg-Holdman for the fifth spot via a scorecard tiebreaker.

Tiffin's Colton Vincelette won Medalist honors with a 1-under par 107.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Thursday when they host Olivet (Mich.) in a dual match at Colonial Golfers Club.
