Adam Scott nets career-high 23 points as Men’s Basketball falls to #6 Marietta

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell 80-64 to No. 6 Marietta late Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The loss drops the Polar Bears to 7-8 overall and 1-7 in the OAC, while the Pioneers improve to 14-2, 9-0.
Junior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) scored a career-high 23 points and added eight rebounds and three assists to lead the way for ONU.
Junior C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick) added 13 points and three rebounds.
Senior Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Marietta finished with a trio of double-figure scorers in Jason Ellis (23 points), Lukas Isaly (18) and Tim Kreeger (14).
With the game tied at 10-all in the first half, Marietta went on a 16-2 run capped by a layup from Brett Martin to take a 14-point lead with 6:34 left until halftime.
The Pioneers led by as many as 16 points in the opening half and were up 38-25 at halftime.
Waugh opened the second half with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 10, but ONU was never able to pull within single digits.
The Polar Bears put together a 6-0 run with two points each from Scott, Napier and junior Landen Long (Mason) to cut a 17-point deficit to 11 with 13:51 remaining, and a 3-pointer from Napier once again made it a 10-point game with 11:57 left.
Ohio Northern made 20-of-51 field goals for 39.2% and was 6-of-21 from 3-point range for 28.6%, while the Pioneers made 29-of-51 field goals for 56.9% and were 7-of-20 from beyond the arc for 35%.
The Polar Bears were 18-of-22 from the foul line for 81.8% while Marietta was 15-of-22 for 68.2%.
ONU out-rebounded Marietta by a 32-25 margin.
The Polar Bears return to the court on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington.
