Football adds three to coaching staff for 2014

ADA — The Ohio Northern football program has added three new coaches to its staff and has made several position coaching changes for the fall of 2014, 11th-year head coach Dean Paul announced.

Former ONU assistant coach Glenn Scheutzow returns to serve as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, E.J. Henderson comes to ONU from Urbana to coach the wide receivers and be the co-offensive coordinator and Pat Lambert comes from Cincinnati to serve as strength and conditioning coach.

Current assistant coach Mike Schmitz will move to the role of offensive coordinator and will coach the quarterbacks, Bob Rohan will now coach the defensive line and Brad Watkins will coach the running backs.

Scheutzow is in his second stint at Ohio Northern after serving as defensive line coach from 2005-12.

He was the defensive line coach at Tiffin in 2013 before returning to ONU in the spring of 2014.

Scheutzow also served as the head coach of the ONU men's tennis program from 2006-­08 and guided the Polar Bears to three OAC Regular Season championships, two OAC Tournament titles, two NCAA Tournament appearances and was named the OAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

Henderson comes to Ohio Northern after a 1-year stint as offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator at NCAA Division II Urbana.

Prior to his stint at Urbana, Henderson served as wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator at NCAA Division I Davidson in 2011-12.

Henderson also has assistant coaching stints at Princeton from 2007-2010, Wayne State from 2004-06, Mount Union in 2002-03 and Louisville in 2000-01.

Henderson played collegiately at Central Washington, where his squad shared the NAIA national title in 1995.

Lambert is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and fitness/health promotion.

He was a 5-year scholarship football player as a defensive back at Cincinnati from 2008-12, where he helped the Bearcats win four Big East Conference championships.

Lambert has also worked as an assistant strength coach at Cincinnati and has worked as a mentor with area youth.

The Polar Bears posted a 6-4 record and finished fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference in 2013 and will open their 2014 season Sept. 6 at Washington (Mo.)
