Baseball completes double header sweep over Capital with 3-1 and 13-2 victories

ADA — Ohio Northern swept Capital 3-1 and 13-2 in an OAC baseball double header to pick up its 10th win in its last 11 games on Friday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (22-8 Overall, OAC 8-2), Capital (15-15 Overall, OAC 4-6).
- Venue: Wander Field - Ada, Ohio.
Game One, W 3-1
- Sophomore Aslyn Farinelli (Crown Point, Ind.) started on the mound and threw 7.2 innings of work while only allowing a single run on his way to pick up his 5th win of the season.
- Ohio Northern jumped to an early 2-0 lead thaks to back-to-back sacrifice flies by junior Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) and senior Chase Armstrong (Lousiville, Ky./Trinity) in the bottom of the first.
- A solo home run from Capital made it 2-1, but freshman Sammy Roush (Blanchester) hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1 in the fourth.
- Freshman Brayden Windagel (Etna/Watkins Memoria) came on in the eighth with the tying run on first but held Capital scoreless thanks to an clutch relay to cut a runner down at home by the defense behind him. He'd eventually pick up his second save of the season after locking the Comets down in the ninth as well.
Game Two, W 13-2
- Freshman Drew Tolfree (East Lansing, Mich./Lansing Catholic) started for the Polar Bears and continued his undefeated season as a starter picking up his 6th win of the season.
- Senior Robbie Reed recorded 3 RBIs in the game for ONU.
- The Polar Bear offense grew a 3-2 lead to 10-2 thanks to a 4-run fourth and a 3-run fifth.
- Ohio Northern struck first again behind an RBI from Armstrong and then junior Evan Russ (Westfield, Ind.) hit an RBI single to cap the first inning off.
- Reed broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly to put ONU up 3-2.
- The Polar Bears piled on 4 runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-2 including a 2 RBI single from Lapp with 2 outs.
- Reed picked up his third RBI of the game thanks to a sacrifice bunt in the fifth.
- Freshman Ryan Perras (Fowelerville, Mich.) smashed a 2-run homerun to put an exclamation mark on the Northern victory in the eighth.

- Junior Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) led the Polar Bear offense going 2-4 on the day with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Tyler Rinehart (Boonville, Ind.) was 4-6 at the plate and scored 4 times to go with two stolen bases.
- Ohio Northern leads the all-time series with Capital 78-34-1.
- Northern also clinched its fourth consecutive winning season.
