Six-run fourth inning lifts Baseball to 11-6 victory over Trine (Ind.) in game four of 8-game homestand

ADA — A six-run fourth inning blew open a tight game and helped the Ohio Northern baseball team to an 11-6 victory over Trine (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Basics

The Game

• The Ohio Northern offense erupted in the fourth to score 6 runs in the inning, including 5 runs with 2 outs, to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
• Senior Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) led the Polar Bears offense going 2-3 at the plate as well as 2 RBIs.
• Brayden Windnagel (Etna/Watkins Memorial) started for Ohio Northern, throwing 5.0 innings and only allowing 2 runs while striking out 8 batters to pick up his second win of the season. 
• Trine drew first blood with a run in the second inning, but the Polar Bears answered with 2 runs in the bottom half of the second.
• The Thunder tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning, but the Polar Bear offense once again answered with an RBI single from Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) and a sacrifice fly from Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) to make it 4-2 in the bottom of the frame.
• Senior Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) added an RBI bunt single and then Armstrong pushed another run across when he drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth to put ONU up 6-2.
• Stechschulte hit a 2 RBI single to push the Northern lead to 9-2.
• Trine out hit ONU 11-7.

• Ohio Northern leads the all-time series with Trine 12-4.
• Lapp leads the team this season with a .393 batting average, 18 RBIs, and 11 extra base hits.
• Armstrong is now tied with Billy Porterfield, who hit 28 home runs from 1992-95. He is also second in walks (90), is 3rd in RBIs (130), is fifth in doubles (38) and is 8th in runs scored (123)
• Reed has 96 career base hits and needs just four more to become the 77th member of ONU's 100-Hit Club.
• Stechschulte (141), Armstrong (136), Reed (133) and Lapp (124) are all members of ONU's 100-Hit Club. 
• Stechschulte is also tied for 8th in ONU history with 34 career doubles.
