Women's Swimming & Diving posts 224-52 win over new conference opponent Defiance
ADA — The Ohio Northern University women's swimming and diving team won all but two events en route to a 224-52 win over Defiance on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears are now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
"Our swimmers had a chance to choose which event they wanted to race this afternoon to challenge themselves," head coach Peggy Ewald commented. "I was very happy the team rose to the challenge and succeeded."
For the second time this season, sophomore Amanda Everlove broke her own US American Paralympic Record in the 50 fly finishing at 30.47, more than three seconds better than her previous record.
Leading the Polar Bears winning three events each were senior Alison Garbash and junior Mackenzie Hoffman.
Alison, along with sophomores Kasey Manko, Cait Munro and Jamie Garbash, won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.46. Alison was also a member of the 200 free relay with Manko, Hoffman and freshman Danielle Wildman for a win in 1:44.85.
Individually, Garbash placed first in the 50 free in 25.58.
Hoffman led the way in the 100 free in 56.52 and the 200 IM in 2:24.29.
Posting two wins for the afternoon, senior Michelle Eggers finished the 1000 free in 11:42.32 and the 200 free in 2:07.10.
After a long winter break, the Polar Bears will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 8 when they travel to Fort Meyers, Fla. to face Shippenburg (Pa.).
