Five named Academic All-OAC in Women's Basketball

ADA — Five Ohio Northern women's basketball players were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in voting conducted by the league's 10 faculty advisors.
Seniors Katie Mengos and Joanna Snyder, juniors Taylor Hermiller and Sara Kocian and sophomore Jordan Kimes all earned selections for the Polar Bears.
Mengos earns her third consecutive Academic All-OAC honor.
The pharmacy major led the team in assists with 87 and also notched a team high 75 steals, which is a new single season record.
She concludes her career as ONU women's basketball all-time leader in assists and steals with 311 and 209, respectively.
Snyder was named Academic All-OAC for the third straight season.
She was named Co-OAC Player of the Year and to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team.
Snyder, who owns a double major in math and education, finished second on the team averaging 13.1 ppg and was also second on the team pulling down 5.8 rpg.
Hermiller started in all but one of Northern's games this season.
This is the first Academic All-OAC honor for the pharmacy major.
She recorded a career high 13 points in ONU's 86-68 victory over Hanover (Ind.) in the First Round of the NCAA III Tournament.
Kocian is a molecular biology/pre-med major.
She appeared in all 28 games for the Polar Bears and shot 36.6 percent in three pointers, which was second on the team.
This is her first Academic All-OAC accolade.
Kimes owns a double major in art and theatre.
She recorded a team best 28 blocks on the season and averaged a career best 5.0 ppg.
This is the first time she has been named Academic All-OAC.
Ohio Northern won a school record 27 games, including 25 in a row.
The Polar Bears also made their first appearance in the NCAA III Tournament since the 1988-89 season and advanced to the Second Round.
